Blizzard is helping old World of Warcraft players reconnect with each other for Classic

With World of Warcraft Classic just around the corner, – a faithful recreation of the original MMO before its many expansions – many players who have been with the title since those early days may find themselves feeling nostalgic about their old friendships that may have faded as the years went on. Blizzard certainly seems to think that, so it has come up with a way for players to track down and reconnect with others from their old servers.

Blizzard has launched a forum tool called “Classic Connections 2004-2006” with the goal of helping pre-expansion WoW players find each other again. Its structure is simple: You start by selecting Horde or Alliance, and then what type of server—PVE, PVP, role-playing PVE, or role-playing PVP—you used to play on. From there, you choose your old server and then post who you were. Blizzard recommends starting with your character’s name, race, class, and guild, as well as the character names of people you’re hoping to tearfully embrace when WoW Classic launches in a few weeks.

The forum also acts as a good entry point for new players who are planning to sign up to Classic this month, and want to find new potential questing buddies for the experience, and – for those who used to enjoy the PvP servers – you can even look up to see if your old nemesis is returning to the game, ready for round two (hundred). If you want to buy World of Warcraft Classic Items, we 5mmo.com can give you a very low price, welcome to buy.

Classic Connections has been around for a couple of months, but this is the first time I’ve seen it, despite the proximity to launch. Most of the threads I’ve looked at only have around ten posts, so hopefully Blizzard will put the word out again and get more people searching for old friends.

The World of Warcraft community has, so far, hit up these threads with abandon, leading to many posting small anecdotes of adventures long past or challenges defeated. Even if you didn’t play World of Warcraft back in 2004-2006, or you don’t intend to play World of Warcraft Classic, it’s still worth checking the threads linked above as they’re a cornucopia of stories that make it clear what this game meant to people, and why Blizzard is spending so much time remaking it.

Players are being asked to focus the bulk of their playtime in the first two hours of the test since that’s the time that Blizzard will be monitoring the game for the most significant issues. The final hardware specs which players must meet to play World of Warcraft Classic was also shared in the same post linked above with Blizzard saying the new requirements are “much lower than the minimum specs required to play Battle for Azeroth.”

World of Warcraft Classic is currently due to release on the 27th of August. For long-time fans that may want to re-create an old character, there will be an opportunity to reserve character names on the 13th of August, allowing for up to three name reservations per account.
